The Ohio High School Athletic Association released the divisional assignments for the 2019 football season as the OHSAA Board of Directors met Monday and approved the breakdowns.
Of area note, a pair of Northwest Ohio Athletic League squads will compete in a new division in 2019 as both Archbold and Liberty Center will move down to Division VI. Meanwhile, Ottawa-Glandorf will move up to Division IV after competing in Division V last season.
In the Western Buckeye League, defending Division IV Region 14 champion St. Marys will be a Division III team in 2019 while fellow league squad Lima Bath will move to Division V.
Perrysburg will compete in Division I this season while neither of the Division VI state finalists will compete in that division in 2019. D-VI state champs Kirtland will be a Division V team in the upcoming season while runner-up Marion Local will compete in Division VII.
Specific regional assignments within the seven divisions will be announced next week by the OHSAA, along with the format for the 2019 playoffs.
The first permitted day of coaching for the 2019 season will be Aug. 1, with the regular season beginning the week of Aug. 26. The state championship games will be played Dec. 5-7 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
