LANCASTER — The Napoleon River Bandits upped their record to 8-4 on the year thanks to a pair of stellar pitching performances in a doubleheader sweep of Lancaster on Tuesday.
In the opener, Landon Willeman (Napoleon) struck out eight over 6.2 innings, allowing just one run and three base hits in a 6-1 triumph. Willeman’s effort was backed up by an eight-hit attack that featured RBI singles from Nate Vold (Ayersville) and Jacob Smith (Napoleon), a first-inning double from Zac Brickel (Hicksville) and a two-run triple in the fifth by Hunter Bostater (Fairview).
After the opening game, Dakota Benner (Montpelier) did Willeman one better by firing a four-hit shutout as Napoleon blanked Lancaster, 7-0. Benner struck out a pair without issuing a walk.
The River Bandits scored two runs in both the first and second innings, including a two-run single from Willeman. Zac Brickel broke things open in the seventh with a three-run home run, scoring Willeman and Austin Lichty (Antwerp).
Napoleon will take the field again today at 5 p.m. for a single nine-inning game at Sidney Legion.
