TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — An 11-hit outburst and a dominant pitching outing from Christian Petersen (Patrick Henry) helped the Napoleon River Bandits take down Bristol (Ind.) Legion in the Terre Haute Tournament on Friday at Terre Haute North Vigo High School.
The Bandits (13-7) got things started in the second inning with a three-run frame. Landon Willeman (Napoleon) drove in high school teammate Jacob Smith with a bases-loaded single to get the scoring going before a two-run base hit from Axel Shanks boosted the advantage to 3-0.
Napoleon broke things open in the fourth with six runs to clinch control. The Bandits scored runs via an error, RBI single (Hunter Bostater, Fairview), groundout (Zac Brickel, Hicksville), RBI double (Smith) and two-run single (Dakota Benner, Montpelier) before Bristol spoiled the shutout with a run in the fifth.
Meanwhile, Petersen allowed just four singles in the complete-game victory for the River Bandits, striking out eight without a walk.
The Bandits’ scheduled game Friday against Tupelo (Miss.) Legion was rained out with rain in the forecast today in Terre Haute threatening scheduled action.
