Nona Rae (Grant) Simon, 84, Defiance, died Monday afternoon, June 3, 2019, at Twin Rivers Care and Rehabilitation Center, Defiance.

Her Legacy… She was born in Continental to Ruth Esther (Rayle) Grant on October 9, 1934. She graduated in 1952 from Continental-Palmer High School. In 1954, she married Clifford J. Simon at the Wisterman E.U.B. Church, Wisterman, Ohio. She worked for the superintendent of Continental School for three years after graduating. She also managed furniture and the appliance department at Bargain City, and was a co-owner of Simon’s Restaurant, Hamler, for 3½ years. She worked for Bloor Furniture, Deshler, and was a teacher’s aide at HOPE School, Henry County MR/DD for 12 years, before retiring from there in 1994. Nona was a member of the Holgate United Methodist Church and the Holgate UM Women. She was a member of the Northwest Ohio Multiple Sclerosis Society, Public Employees Retirement System and their retirees. She and her husband resided in Hamler for 33 years before moving to Defiance in 2001. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 20, 2014.

Her Family… She is survived her two sons, Rick L. Simon of Milan, Mich., and Kevin L. Simon, Miller City; a brother, Bruce McKibben, Edon, Ohio; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Nona was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff, in January 2017.

Her Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Holgate United Methodist Church, 677 Joe E. Brown Street, Holgate, on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. Entombment will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance, on Friday, June 7, at 10 a.m., followed by the celebration of Nona’s life at 11 a.m. at the Holgate United Methodist Church, with Diane Pickering officiating.
