ANTWERP — Mary Ann DeLong, 81, Antwerp, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019, at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
Mary was born in Rockford on June 29, 1938, a daughter of the late Leo George and Velma Edna (Hisey) Shaffer. She retired from Magnavox, but was most comfortable coaching the Buckeyes, the Reds and the Tigers from her couch and back-seat driving for Dale Earnhardt Inc.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, Nick, whom she married Jan. 9, 1976; children, Cindy (Todd) Deming and Chris (Melinda) Walters; sister, Martha (Jon) Sidenbender; sisters-in-law, Virginia Wendel and JoAnn Shaffer; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mary also was preceded in death by her siblings, Glenn (Donna), Robert, Thurman, Basil (Wilma), Leland (Pauline), Don (Norma), Charles (Pat) and Leo “Butch” Shaffer.
Her funeral service is at 10 a.m., with viewing from 9-9:45 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp. Viewing is also Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Dooley Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.
