NAPOLEON — Evelyn Benecke, 90, of Napoleon, Ohio, died Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center in Defiance, Ohio.
Evelyn was born on April 15, 1926, near Okolona, Ohio, to the late Herman and Helen (Damman) Lange. She graduated from Napoleon High School in 1943. She married Donald D. Benecke of Ridgeville Corners at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Okolona on April 8, 1951. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2012.
Evelyn served as a past president of the Ohio Cattlewomen, and was a member of Legion Auxiliary Unit 454, Henry County Council, Hospital auxiliary, Filling Guild, chaperone at Buckeye Girls State and 4-H advisor. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Adams Ridge Road.
Evelyn is survived by her sons, Larry (Wendi) of San Marcos, California, Tom (Art) of Toledo, Ohio, Dave (Colleen) of Columbus, Ohio, and Mike (Mary Ann) of Ridgeville Corners, Ohio; and daughter, Mary Ann (Chic) Cunnigan of Columbus, Ohio. She had eight grandchildren, Chad (Lisa) Cunnigan, Megan (Bryan) Lubaway, Ryan, Kyle and Paige Benecke, Lyndon Benecke and Annie (Jake) Meyer, and Aaron (Cori) Kovac, as well as five great-grandchildren, Mikaela and Natalie Cunnigan and AJ, Talia, and Maddox Kovac. She is survived by sister Kathy (Ron) Wilkerson of Okolona, Ohio.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Bostelman and Marilyn Hoops; and brothers, Norman and Eldon Lange.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 12, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Adams Ridge Road, Defiance, Ohio. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2-8 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and an hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church.
