Blessing of the Bicycles — St. John United Church of Christ, 950 Webster St., Defiance, is hosting its annual Blessing of the Bicycles Wednesday to coincide with the 17th annual worldwide Ride of Silence. The blessing will take place at 6:30 p.m., followed by cyclists taking to the road all over the world at 7 p.m. in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. The Ride of Silence asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. Summer lunch registration — Cecil Community Church, 203 S. Main St., Cecil, is hosting summer lunch registration and activities on May 19 from 3-5 p.m. Parents/guardians can complete a form for each child/participant ages 4-18. Teen girls conference — St. Paul Lutheran Church, 671 Clinton St., Defiance, is hosting a teen girls conference for girls in grades 6-12 on June 8, featuring the theme, “I belong.” Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the conference from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The purpose of the conference is to inspire, motivate and encourage girls to live their best lives, and to let them know they are loved, they are beautiful and they are valued (and valuable). The goal of conference is to help teen girls make better choices, and to encourage the use of positive words toward themselves and others. A special morning beverage will be served at check-in, with speakers and activities comprising the program, including break-out sessions for girls in grades 6-8, and 9-12. Attendees will receive a T-shirt, a boxed lunch from Subway and a goodie bag. Attendees are asked to bring in a canned good to donate for those in need, with all who donate entered in a drawing for giveaways. The cost is $20, and the deadline to register is May 23.
