Shumaker to speak — Tara Shumaker, principal of Good Samaritan School/Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities (DCDBB), will be the guest speaker at the Mother Teresa Respect for Life event on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 510 Jackson Ave., Defiance. Schumaker received her bachelor’s in special education and master’s in education from Bowling Green State University. She worked as an intervention specialist for 10 years before becoming a special education supervisor for the NwOESC. She has served as the principal of Good Samaritan School/DCBDD for six years. Good Samaritan School currently provides educational services for 60 Defiance County students with significant needs, ages 6-21. Schumaker will discuss the specialized services offered at Good Samaritan and the opportunities it provides to meet the individualized needs of each student. Pub Theology — St. John United Church of Christ is hosting its next Pub Theology event Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Miami & Erie Restaurant and Lounge, 406 Clinton St., Defiance. Clean-up/food giveaway — Cecil zip code residents can bring trash to the dumpster at Cecil Community Church, 203 S. Main St., Cecil, from 1:30-4 p.m. June 1. Items not allowed to be thrown out include: any items with freon, yard waste, hazardous chemicals and tires. The church is also hosting a food giveaway from 1:30-4 p.m. that day. Anniversary celebration — St. John Lutheran Church, 16035 Henry County Road U, Napoleon, is hosting several events throughout 2019 in celebration of its 150th anniversary, with the theme: “Jesus Christ — Yesterday, Today, Forever.” The church will celebrate “Jesus Christ, Today,” June 2 at 9 a.m. The service will feature Rev. Baked steak fundraiser — A baked steak fundraiser dinner will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 710 Joe E. Brown Ave., Holgate, June 2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The menu includes baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, coleslaw, applesauce, roll, dessert and beverage, all for a freewill offering. Carryouts will be available. Proceeds will go to St. Peter’s Faith and Family Daycare Program. Located across from Holgate Local Schools, St. Peter’s is handicapped accessible.
