A special fundraising auction will return to Defiance next weekend, hosted by the Defiance Lions Club.

This year’s auction, held in conjunction with the annual iHeart Media Home & Garden Spring Show, is slated for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Defiance College’s George M. Smart Athletic Center.

The 41st annual auction will last approximately two hours at the main stage. Ken Wenner, Lions Club president and auction chairman, noted that this year’s celebrity auctioneers are Brent Joost, Kendra and Cole Limber.

Wenner shared that some of the items up for auction include a recliner from Ken’s Furniture, a family membership to the Defiance Area YMCA, a laptop from DR Computers, a flat-screen television from Jill Clinger from Nationwide Insurance, a Kindle and all-sports passes for Defiance, Tinora and Ayersville schools.

The iHeart Media Home & Garden Spring Show is scheduled for 4-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $2 per person for ages 16-65. More than 150 vendors are expected to be on site for the weekend show. Parking is free.

“Proceeds from the auction will benefit sight conservation in the county and the Halloween Parade,” said Wenner, in addition to Junior Achievement, Defiance County Furniture Bank and scholarships for Ayersville, Defiance and Tinora seniors. One hundred percent of the funds stay in the county.

He noted that in addition to merchandise and gift certificates being auctioned off, he credited merchants in Defiance who offer sponsor donations.

Last year, Lions Club members raised approximately $9,500 from the auction, with that being the goal again this year.
