SWANTON — The name of a Fulton County woman has been released, whose SUV was left on the railroad tracks in Swanton on June 6, causing a train derailment.
The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was Logan Guess, Delta, according to the Toledo post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Troopers reported that at 10:17 p.m., a Norfolk Southern train was westbound near Main Street, north of U.S. 20A, and struck a Chevy Tahoe left abandoned on the tracks. More than a dozen train cars reportedly derailed from the tracks.
Several other parked vehicles were struck by debris after the initial crash. A derailed train car also struck a nearby garage.
Due to a leaking propane tank on the railroad, the immediate area was evacuated, troopers reported. In addition, a transformer was struck and Swanton residents were without power.
No one was injured in the incident.
This crash and its chain of events remain under investigation.
