Defiance County grand jury returns indictments against 19 persons

A Defiance County grand jury has returned indictments against 19 persons, according to Defiance County Prosecutor Morris Murray’s office.

Indicted were:

• Sara Black, 32, 521 Elbert St., for two counts of corrupting another with drugs, each a second-degree felony; and endangering children, a third-degree felony. Authorities allege that in February she used cocaine while pregnant, and after giving birth to her child, she breastfed the child while continuing to use cocaine, causing serious physical harm to the child.

• Mark Deel, 38, Continental, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a second-degree felony.

• Alec Beavers, 21, 01353 Moser Road, for aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony; receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on Feb. 13, during an investigation involving a suspicious vehicle parked at a residence on Carpenter Road, he was found to be driving a vehicle with a stolen license plate and in possession of methamphetamine.

• Matthew Brubaker, 47, 1477 Terrawenda Drive, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a third-degree felony.

• Crystal Burk, 36, Neapolis, for failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony; possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony; OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor; and endangering children, a first-degree misdemeanor. She allegedly failed to comply with a traffic stop for a lane violation on U.S. 24 in Defiance County on Jan. 7, creating a substantial risk of serious physical harm to persons or property in the area. Authorities further allege that after officers stopped Burk, she was found to be driving while under the influence of alcohol and in possession of cocaine while a juvenile was traveling with her.

• Carl Hagerman, 39, Stryker, for tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony; possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony; two counts of aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), each a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on Feb. 11, he was arrested on a warrant at a residence on Defiance’s Haig Street. When officers arrived to arrest him, Hagerman allegedly attempted to remove drug-related evidence from the residence.

• Nicholas Lowe, 26, Stryker, for failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony; and grand theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on Feb. 24 he took a vehicle from a residence in Defiance without consent of the owner, and when officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle while in the parking lot of a North Clinton Street business, Lowe failed to comply and fled from officers. Authorities further allege that during the pursuit through Defiance, Lowe drove recklessly at high speeds, until he eventually went off the side of the road, hit a telephone pole, struck a lightpost and crashed the vehicle into a tree in an area off Ohio 15 in Brunersburg. Lowe then fled the vehicle on foot and was later apprehended by police.

• Kirby Motter, 23, Stryker, for two counts of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony. Authorities allege that on two occasions between Jan. 1 and Feb. 19 at a residence on Defiance’s Delaware Court, Motter had sexual contact with a female juvenile under the age of 13.

• Ryan McCullough, 33, 14155 Dohoney Road, for domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on March 6, at a residence on Fullmer Road, he caused, or attempted to cause, physical harm to a family or household member, having had a prior assault conviction.

• Rebecca Schwinnen, 48, 2290 Baltimore Road, for failure to appear as required by recognizance, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on March 6 she failed to appear for a hearing in Defiance County Common Pleas Court after having been released on a personal-recognizance bond.

• Larry Bell, 20, 09162 Flickinger Road, for two counts of aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), each a fifth-degree felony.

• Aleasha Cain, 37, Fort Wayne, Ind., for possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony.

• Elizabeth Doeden, 30, 1013 Schultz St., for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.

• Mary Fillman, 34, 08548 Trinity Road, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony.

• Brandy Howard, 38, Fort Wayne, Ind.; for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony.

• Bilan McLaughlin, 36, Napoleon, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine) and possession of heroin, each a fifth-degree felony.

• Leeleon Messer, 41, Bristol City Jail, Va., for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony.

• Samantha Martinez, 20, 06909 Ohio 66, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony.

• Michael Ward, 34, 1209 Ayersville Ave., for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony.

The above defendants are scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m on March 27 in Defiance County Common Pleas Court.
