Mary Voight Camp 1

FLORIDA — Mary Voigt Camp recently spoke at the Florida Branch Library about Girty’s Island, an island in the Maumee River between Florida and Napoleon and supposedly a refuge for the infamous Simon Girty.

The island is now owned by the state as a preserve, but when Mary was a child, it was owned by her family and used as their summer home and as a resort for people to enjoy. Camp has many pictures of the island as it was back then.

Voigt will give another presentation on the subject at 7 p.m. June 10 at the Napoleon Public Library.
