At the next meeting of the Defiance County Genealogical Society at 7 p.m. Monday, members will share the highlights of their discoveries since they were challenged three months ago.
The challenge was to choose an ancestor — but not one with whom they are already familiar. Pick one about whom they know little about but have always wanted to know more.
They were to gather all the known dates, places, and other data concerning that person, and then dig deeper to see what further information they can find about that person’s life. For example, the ancestor’s occupation, religion, way of life, and events/hardships they faced.
Then participating members were to write a short narrative about that person’s life and share it at the meeting. What interesting discoveries did they find?
Also, the Defiance County Genealogical Society is offering for sale a new booklet entitled 225th Anniversary 1794-2019 of Anthony Wayne’s Fort Defiance, A Collection of Short Stories. Prices are $8 for society members or $10 by mail. Booklets will be available at June meeting or by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org, or Defiance Chapter OGS, P.O. Box 7006, Defiance 43512-7006.
