Elizabeth Steele of Sherwood plays on the Ft. Wayne Komets all girls travel hockey team. They play in the Midwest Girls Hockey League. This past weekend, they played in the Central Division league championships. Teams from Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Ohio participated. The Komets went 3-1 in round robin play, which set them up in championship game vs. the Springfield(IL) Lady Kings. They defeated the Kings 6-3 to win the championship.
Lizzy is in the 6th grade at Fairview Middle School. She maintains honor roll grades while playing this demanding sport. She plays hockey from August until May every year. She also has a brother, Zac, that is in 2nd grade at Fairview Elementary. He also plays hockey on the Ft. Wayne Select(all-star) Team. Back in January, his team won a tournament in Ann Arbor, MI and Zac was named tournament MVP. Both kids work very hard to compete at these levels. Not many kids at their ages in any sport ever get to compete against teams from all over the country. These 2 kids have played teams from Canada to Alabama, and from New Jersey to Missouri.
