Vaughnsville Church Observes 150 YearsOctober 26, 2009
The Vaughnsville (Ohio) United Methodist Church is observing its 150th anniversary during 2009. As part of its year-long celbration, a Gymanfa Ganu (guh-man'-vah gah'-nee) will be presented on Sunday, November 1 at 4 pm. Jeffrey Llewellyn Foulkes, a native of the congregation, will be the director. The Gymanfa Ganu is a Welsh tradition of gathering to sing hymns in Welsh and English. Many of the area's original settlers were from Wales, and they brought their tradition of enthusiasticly singing four-part hymns with them. The Vaughnsville community had annual Gymanfa Ganu until 1958. Planners invite experienced Gymanfa Ganu singers in the area to contribute their voices for the program and encourage the un-initiated to be part of this unique heritage of faith and song. Of course, even non-singers are welcome to enjoy the music! There will be a chance to brush-up on Welsh pronunciation and a brief rehearsal of unfamiliar tunes. All are invited to attend a light supper after the program. The church is located at 223 Findlay Street on State Route 12, one block east of State Route 115 in Vaughnsville, Ohio. Contact John Foulkes at 419-646-3747 for more information. submitted by: Jeff Foulkes cell: 234.380.0521 Comments
