HICKSVILLE -- Flames destroyed a storage building in rural Hicksville on Monday, causing $150,000 in damage and sending a firefighter who came into contact with a downed power line to the hospital.

Hicksville Fire Chief Doug Miller said this morning that the firefighter, whose name was not released, was treated at Community Memorial Hospital, Hicksville, and released.

The fire at 11436 Casebeer-Miller Road was reported at 10 a.m.

Miller said that flames were shooting from the west side of the building when firefighters arrived. The high winds, he added, made fighting the fire difficult.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but is not considered suspicious.

Miller said the building and its contents, including several vehicles, were destroyed. Damage was estimated at $150,000.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 2:30 p.m.

Firefighters from northeast Allen County, Ind., and Grabill, Ind., as well as Sherwood, Delaware Township, Antwerp and Edgerton fire departments assisted at the scene. The Defiance County Sheriff's Office, Defiance County American Red Cross, Hicksville police and Hicksville rescue also responded.
