I love Defiance schools. I love the teachers, my son had the absolute best teacher last year in Developmental kindergarten. I am irritated that at this point...August 7th, that I have no idea who my childs teacher will be, and have no clue what to buy for the classroom. I called the school with no answer. We have been to meijer looking for classroom lists to no avail. My husband and I finally drove up to the school and picked up a sheet of paper describing what supplies were needed for first grade and beyond. For kindergarteners, we have to wait until after school starts. So while all the school supplies are on sale with great prices at all of the stores in Defiance, the parents of developmental-K and kindergarteners, have to wait to buy them and hope they are going to be at the prices they are at now, along with whatever the school fees are going to be this year, which I dont know yet either.
Its not very helpful to just spring those costs on some parents at the last minute...if informed earlier, they have the opportunity to budget for them.

Ever consider the new "Holy Cross Catholic School"
The building has been completely renovated, the class sizes are small, the teachers are the best, and all the modern technology from Smart Boards to computer labs are in place. My experience with the school is that they always have a supplies list avaliable for new students and you also get a supplies list at the end of the school year for the upcoming year. Oh yea, and you don't have to be Catholic to attend.

I completely agree. This waiting to the last minute is ridiculous.

I agree with you that Defiance City Schools have some of the best teachers a district can ask for. All of my children have had a great experiences with the staff at all the schools. Even with my more difficult middle child the staff was more than willing to work my husband and myself to guide him though year after year.
The Kindergarten and D-K students at Defiance Elementary do not have to bring any school supplies. The school uses the student fees to purchase the supplies for the students so that they all have the same supplies that are developmentally appropriate for young learners. Payments can be made throughout the year on your child school fees. I hope this information was helpful to you and that your child has another great school year!
Please continue to support the schools, they work harder than we will ever know to give our children amazing experiences.
