A Paulding County man drowned Saturday night after his fishing boat capsized in the Auglaize River near Hammersmith Road, south of Defiance.
Keith York, 63, Grover Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene by Defiance County Coroner Dr. Paul Brose, according to the Defiance County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies report that York, along with another adult and a juvenile female, were in the boat when it capsized around 11:39 p.m. One adult male was able to swim to the west bank of the Auglaize River and summon assistance from a motorist on Ohio 111.
The juvenile was able to cling to the capsized boat until help arrived.
York's body was located with the help of the Defiance Fire Department, the sheriff's office and neighboring boaters.
The boat's motor apparently experienced a mechanical malfunction before it capsized.
The incident remains under investigation.
