A semi accident that occurred Thursday afternoon on U.S. 24, west of Ohio 15 in Defiance, sent an Indiana man to the hospital and shut down the westbound lanes of U.S. 24 for more than two hours.
According to the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 3:25 p.m. when a semi driven west on U.S. 24 by Dwayne Potter, 45, Dana, Ind., struck a construction trailer parked on the shoulder of the roadway.
The semi traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a guardrail and a bridge wall.
Potter was transported by the Defiance Fire Department to Defiance Regional Medical Center and was later transferred by air ambulance to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, where his condition was unavailable this morning.
Potter was cited for driving outside marked lanes and no safety belt.
Damage to the vehicle was heavy.
Westbound U.S. 24 traffic was detoured to Ohio 15/18 for nearly two hours in connection with the traffic accident.
