FORT WAYNE -- Former Defiance resident Edward D. Murphy, Sr., 93, Fort Wayne, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Covington Manor Nursing Center, Fort Wayne.
He was born Sept. 6, 1914, in Traverse City, Mich., the son of Calvin and Margaret (Lantow) Murphy. He married Helen Jump, who died in 1998. He retired from Essex Wire Corporation in 1979, and was a member of Salem United Church of Christ.
Surviving are a son, Edward (Gaynel) Murphy, Jr., Fort Wayne; a stepson, Spencer Anspach; a stepdaughter, Heather Elder; and four great-stepgrandchildren.
Private graveside services were held at Riverside Cemetery, Defiance. Handling arrangements was D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, Fort Wayne.
