The Defiance High School softball team overcame an early four-run deficit before exploding for a 14-4 comeback victory over Western Buckeye foe Elida on Tuesday.
Elida plated three runs in the opening frame before tacking on another in the third for a 4-0 advantage before DHS rallied. The Lady Bulldogs scored two runs in the third to pull within 4-2, then took the lead for good withy six runs in the bottom of the fourth. DHS put the game away with another six-run uprising in the sixth.
"I thought we did a great job of hitting tonight," remarked Defiance head coach Krista Ordway. "I hope we can continue to do this in our next couple games and in the tournament next week."
Senior shortstop Britney Lopez had a single and triple while driving in four runs to power DHS (12-9, 5-4 WBL). Katelyn Steffel added to the 11-hit Defiance attack with a single and double while senior first baseman Marissa McDonald had two singles.
Lindsey Tobias also drove in two runs for Defiance with a home run while Megan Turner had three RBI with a double.
Turner was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on one hit with six strikeouts in 51/3 innings of relief.
Defiance returns to action Thursday when it hosts Hicksville.
