Hitting woes for Lady Dogs

LIMA -- Lima Shawnee pushed across one run in the sixth inning and squeaked past Defiance on Tuesday, 1-0.

Brooke Shultz ignited the Shawnee sixth frame with a leadoff double before moving to third base on a passed ball. On a grounder to third base, Defiance checked Shultz and threw to first for the first out of the inning but Shultz safely scored when the throw from first to home landed in the dirt.

"We did not hit tonight," admitted second-year Defiance mentor Krista Ordway. "Hopefully we can get things turned around before the tournament."

Ashley Brandon was the tough-luck loser for DHS and also paced the Bulldogs at the plate with two singles.

The loss dropped Defiance to 10-6 overall and 4-3 in the WBL.

Defiance will host Swanton on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
