Mark Froelich - Let's talk online, it's your choice

Let's talk.

Not just read ... but really, really talk.

What about?

It's your choice.

So tell me, what's on your mind?

On Tuesday, The Crescent-News Online (www.crescent-news.com) added "Your Forum" to its website. I added four subjects to discuss. I hope you can add more.

Here are the four things you can discuss so far:

1. How much for gas? Regular unleaded gas at around $3.65 a gallon? What prices have you seen?

2. What's in your garden this year? Have you started in your garden yet? What good things are going to be growing in that garden this year?

3. So Miley Cyrus is in the news ... OK, so Vanity Fair took some controversial pictures of 15-year-old "Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus that might be a bit "showy," but only show her shoulders really. Should this be a big deal or not?

4. Been fishing? What are you catching on the waters these days and where?

Here's how you can contribute your thoughts:

Go to www.crescent-news.com and look at the links on the left side of the page. Scroll down and click on "Your Forum." You will see the four topics that are listed above. If you want to comment on any of these, you can click on the subject line and then click "Post New Thread." If you post a new thread, type in the title and then your message. When finished, click "post reply."

To create your own subforum, go to www.crescent-news.com/news/forum_subs/3711312 and go toward the bottom of the page on the "Create a Sub Forum" section. Type in the title of your discussion and click "Create Sub Forum."

Let's talk II

Also this week, The Crescent-News Online is asking you this question: How do you plan on spending your economic stimulus money? This poll is located on the right side of the home page at www.crescent-news.com.

The results as of 7:30 this morning:

-- 40 percent plan to pay off bills.

-- 5 percent plan to invest the money

-- 20 percent will take a trip

-- 10 percent will save it for gas money

-- 15 percent will go shopping

-- 10 percent is undecided.

Submit your vote online and also talk about the economic stimulus money on the forum.

Let's talk III

If you or someone you know are "American Idol" fans, take some time to visit "Idol Chatter" at http://blogs.crescen...ol

So how can we talk? You can post your thoughts on "American Idol" and its performers on this blog; or you can agree and disagree with my postings.

Comics update

We've had a great run in April from the trial comic strip "Church Mice."

"Church Mice" is traditionally a weekly cartoon strip, but only for The Crescent-News, Karl Zorowski was gracious enough to get a month of these cartoon strips ready for your enjoyment.

Beginning May 1, we will feature the comic strip "Cul de Sac," a widely popular cartoon strip from Universal Press Syndicate.

Also of note, the daily comic strip "PreTeena" will be leaving The Crescent-News in May. Illustrator/writer Allison Burrows has decided to end this cartoon and the final strips will be published the week of May 12.

YouTube video of the week

Jim Valvano was a widely popular basketball coach at North Carolina State and was dying of cancer when he made his emotional speech at the 1993 ESPY Awards.
