Fire guts area home

January 24, 2008

Several area fire departments battled a house fire which broke out in Defiance County's Highland Township early Wednesday afternoon.

The home at 25581 Blanchard Road, owned by Jeremy Edmonds, was completely destroyed. A dollar estimate on the loss has not yet been determined.

Highland Township Fire Department received the initial call at 2:55 p.m.
According to Highland Township Fire Chief Dan Frederick, no occupants were injured, but two firefighters were treated at Defiance hospitals for minor injuries including smoke inhalation and a twisted knee.

"The cause of the fire is still under investigation; it's not suspicious," said Frederick.

Mutual aid was provided by South Richland, Defiance, New Bavaria, and Continental fire departments. Firefighters were on scene for about four hours. The Defiance County Chapter of the American Red Cross provided canteen services.
