HICKSVILLE -- Patricia L. Caperton, 80, Hicksville, died Thursday, November 19, 2009, at Community Memorial Hospital, Hicksville, where she had been a patient since Sunday.

She was born on July 28, 1929, to Clayton and Auline (VanZile) Chorpenning in Hicksville, Ohio. Pat retired from Sheller Globe in Grabill, Indiana. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Hicksville, where she was a past deaconess and a member of the Women's Council. She was an avid reader of mysteries and enjoyed the outdoors.

Pat is survived by a son, Larry (Joyce ) Ice, Angola, Ind.; five daughters, Johnel Erdman of Albany, Ga., Tammy (Charlie) Compton of Kendallville, Ind., and Penny (John) Battershell, Robin (Ken) Sanders and Roberta (Jon Fry) Zimmerman, all of Hicksville; 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack (Gwen) Chorpenning of Hamilton, Ind.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Deloris Lewis and Peggy Jo Smith.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at First Church of Christ, Hicksville. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Betty Heater

PALM HARBOR, Fla. -- Former Paulding resident Elizabeth "Betty" J. Heater, 81, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at the Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor, Florida.

She was born November 22, 1927, in Paulding, the daughter of William H. and Iona (Sickmiller) Heater. She was a graduate of Bowling Green State University and Ohio University. She taught music education in Ohio and Florida, as well as in England for the U.S. Department of Defense to military dependents for 30 years. After retirement, she moved to Florida where she lived for the past 19 years. She was a member of the Paulding United Methodist Church and was very active in the Methodist church in Ohio, as well as Florida. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by one brother, Robert (Josie) Heater, Marion, Ohio; a special friend, Iris Schreiber, Palm Harbor, Florida; and seven nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William Heater Jr.; and one niece.

Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at the Paulding United Methodist Church. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Ayersville Cemetery. A memorial service is being planned in Florida at a later date. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Handling arrangements is Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding.

Garry Young

PAYNE -- Garry L. Young, 74, Payne, passed away at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, November 19, 2009, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Garry was born in Payne on May 14, 1935, a son of the late Lois (Ludwig) and Evard Young. He was a farmer who loved old tractors, a Harrison Township Trustee, a member of the Payne Church of Christ, Payne Board of Public Affairs and Flatrock Masonic Lodge and 40-year member of the Payne Fire Department and EMS. On Oct. 30, 1959, Garry married Anita Armstrong, who survives.

Garry will be sadly missed by his wife, Anita; sons, Brian (Beth), Brad and Bob (Amy), all of Payne; sister, Sue (Joe) Meyer of Antwerp; sister-in-law, Jean of Payne; and four grandchildren.

His brother, Howard, preceded him in death.

His funeral service is Monday at 11 a.m. at the Payne Church of Christ, with viewing one hour prior to services. Viewing is also Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Dooley Funeral Home, Payne. He will be laid to rest at Lehman Cemetery.

Florence Lind

WAUSEON -- Florence L. Lind, 93, Wauseon, passed away late Wednesday, November 18, 2009, in her farm home of 72 years with her family at her side.

Florence was born on January 23, 1916, the daughter of the late Philip and the late Goldie Pultz. On November 15, 1935, she married Sonny Lind, and he preceded her in death. They had two children, Bill and Sis.

Florence graduated from Wauseon High School in 1934. Florence and Sonny owned and operated The Steakhouse in Wauseon from 1956 until 1963. She then worked for the Holiday Inn in Napoleon where she was a waitress for 17 years. In retirement, she wintered in Florida for 10 years. Besides cooking, baking and putting up fruit for her family and friends, Florence spent many hours gardening and playing cards. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wauseon serving on many committees, the Quilting Guild and the Mary Martha Circle.

Florence is survived by her son, Bill Lind, of Wauseon; grandson, Roger (Judy) Myers of Neapolis; and granddaughter, Holly (Mark) Libke of Howell, Mich. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Blake and Cole; many nieces and nephew; and sister, Betty Hildreth.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Sonny; daughter, Sis; and brother, Charlie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wauseon with Rev. Tim Sonnenberg and Rev. Jennifer Herrmann officiating. Interment will follow in the Wauseon Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today.

NAPOLEON -- Lavone Zachrich, 88, Napoleon, died this morning, Nov. 20, 2009, at the Henry County Hospital, Napoleon, Arrangements are pending at Walker Mortuary, Napoleon.

Helen Stelter

Services for Helen K. Stelter were held Thursday, November 19, 2009, in Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. William R. Nirote officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jim Barney, Otto Nicely and Jarod Kammeyer.
