Fern Duncan ARLINGTON, Texas -- Former Defiance resident Fern Petry Duncan, 71, Arlington, Texas, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009, in the Medical Center of Arlington. She was born July 15, 1938, in Pikeville, Ky., the daughter of George and Annie (Kendrick) McGuire. She was a forklift operator at GM for 31 years, retiring in 1996. She was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3360 and a member of Believer's Church International. Surviving are two daughters, Bobbie Petry of Arlington and Barbara (Tim) Metz, New Haven, Ind.; three brothers, Harvey McGuire of Defiance, Charles Lee (Midge) McGuire of Nicholasville, Ky., and Monroe McGuire, Bryan, Ohio; two sisters, Perlie Lang of Defiance and Bertha (Don) Smith, Nicholasville, Ky.; and seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Preceding her in death were her parents; six brothers, Arvell, Willie, Fonso, Sterling, Richard and Ira McGuire; and two sisters, Laura and Marie McGuire. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2009, in Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with Apostle O. Michael Smith officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the family.
