Another busy week for road projects in and around Defiance is coming up.
City and county officials say paving is planned soon on Baltimore Road and at North Clinton Street " substantially completing projects there " while reconstruction of Christy Road, just north of Ohio 15/18, will begin Monday, weather permitting.
Road work includes:
" Paving at North Clinton and Elliott Road. Work is scheduled to occur Monday, weather permitting.
Defiance County Engineer Warren Schlatter said Crestline Paving, Toledo, will flag traffic on North Clinton, but Elliott Road will be closed at the intersection. The closure is expected to last one day, he said.
The paving is part of a larger intersection widening project in preparation for the reconstruction of the U.S. 24/North Clinton Street interchange next year.
Street lights must still be installed at the intersection, Schlatter said.
" Christy Road reconstruction. Fort Defiance Construction, Defiance, will begin working Monday to widen Christy Road for 400 feet north from Ohio 15 and add a left turn lane at the intersection.
The project is likely to take 2-4 weeks, depending upon the weather, Schlatter explained.
As a corollary to Christy Road's improvement, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has been working on the widening of Ohio 15/18 at Christy Road. ODOT crews will add a left turn lane for northbound traffic onto Christy Road.
" Baltimore Road paving. City engineer Lee Rausch said the contractor, Miller Contracting, Ottoville, will likely pave the road during the middle of the week.
If so, this would end a sewer separation project that has closed through traffic on Baltimore Road, between Deatrick and Atlantic streets, for weeks.
Rausch said ODOT plans to repave Baltimore Road/Holgate Avenue completely next year, between the Ohio 424/U.S. 24 interchange and downtown Defiance.
City officials said Friday they were working with Miller Contracting to open Baltimore Road this weekend, although it would be closed again Monday to complete construction.
