Connect Four has always been a favorite game of mine.Playing the game online is a great challenge, too. The online version can become addicting for both adults and students as well. Young students could even get an education from the game, where you have to get four chips in a row, either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Set your skill level to "Beginner," "Easy," "Medium" or "Hard." I played the "Hard" version because I thought I was good enough to take on the computer. I did win some games, but for the most part, the computer found a way to defeat me. I love a good challenge and this game provides it, so hopefully you enjoy the site as well. www.mathsisfun.com/games/connect4.html Keep away Have you heard of Peyton Manning? He's the quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. Hasbro.com has created many games on its website for kids. You should really check this out because both boys and girls can find oodles of interesting games, like Littlest Pet Shop, Candy Land, Hulk, Spider-Man and more. But it's the Peyton Manning game of "Nerf" that some young fans of Manning would enjoy. It's really simple to play: Two boys are playing keep-away from Manning. His character is in the middle and all you do -- after you click "Play" -- is click the mouse to throw the football from one boy to the other. Manning is in the middle jumping up and down trying to knock the ball away. In the meantime, he has a limited vocabulary that will entertain the kids while they play. www.hasbro.com/monkeybartv/default.cfm?page=Entertainment/OnlineGames/GameSelect&game=2910 Caption Contest If you haven't tried The Crescent-News' weekly caption contest, this week would be a great week to start. This week's photo is of a chimpanzee looking through a Halloween-theme bag at the San Francisco Zoo. There are all kinds of possibilities to write a creative caption to this. We've already had some great submissions and those can be read if you scroll down below the photo. In the "Comments' box, be sure to add and submit your own creative caption. www.crescent-news.com/news/simple_article/4696548 Time wasting Wow, talk about a serious time-waster of a website... Lunchtimers.com puts nothing but letters on the screen. Users do not register, but they arrive on the site andsimply rearrange the letters to make words - kind of like something a child would do on a refrigerator. However, this is no ordinary child. Be warned that there are several naughty people in the world who use this site to post nasty words and phrases. You, however, can move some of the letters as the people are creating them. (That was half the fun for me!) http://lunchtimers.com/game/?game=letters&roomid=room1 Puzzling together The lunchtimers.com home page can take you to several of the games that you can play with other online visitors. I helped create a puzzle on the Jigsaw game section with several other players. Click on "Jigsaw" on the left side of the home page and you can select from a hard, medium oreasy jigsaw puzzle. Whichever you choose, you will be taken to that site where others are already working on the puzzle. http://lunchtimers.com/game/?game=jigsaw&roomid=medium In Search of a Word You are given eight letters. You need to create words with these letters in a certain amount of time. The bigger the word, the more points you are rewarded. Once you arrive at this website listed below, click on the underlined phrase: "8 Letters In Search Of a Word" and you will be taken to the game. http://freebies.about.com/od/dailyfreetimewasters/qt/8letters.htm Comments
