PAULDING -- A group of civic-minded Paulding County residents have banded together to plan the inaugural October Q festival slated for Saturday at the Paulding County Fairgrounds.

"This is a fun fall event we decided to put together for the enjoyment of the public and to raise money for a great cause," said Rick Caryer, a member of the planning committee. "All proceeds will go toward next year's Paulding County Fair."

The fund-raiser features plenty of great food, including ribs and chili, as well as three bands. The music starts at 5 p.m. by Skatterbrainz, Josh Dennings and Venyx. Food and drinks are available all day. Admission is $2 per person.

Other committee members are chairman Tammy Florence, Brian Godoy, Jason Franklin, Bob Lehman, Jeff Mekus, Jessica Goyings, Larry Colley and Ray Goyings.

"We are holding this festival at the same time as the truck pull at the fairgrounds track," said Florence. "Persons wanting to view the truck pull from the infield will have to pay a separate admission charge."

Florence said the festival beer tent opens at 12 p.m. for those ages 21 and over with proper photo identification. Wrist bands for entrance to the tent are $1, plus patrons must pay for the cost of beverages.

"We hope to make this festival an annual event," added Caryer.

Admission for the truck pull event is $10 for ages 12 and older and $5 for ages 6-11. Children ages 5 and younger are free. Alcohol is prohibited at the pulls.

The back-to-back truck pull competition starts at 12 p.m., followed by the truck-to-sled pulls at 1 p.m. Class divisions are 5,000 pounds, 6,500 pounds and 8,000 pounds. Weigh-in begins at 10 a.m. Payout is $60 to the winner, $30 for second place and $10 for third place, based on the number of trucks. Contestants may use any tire size, but the maximum hitch height is 30 inches. Unlimited hooks may be used at a cost of $10 per hook.

The sled pull competition starts at 6 p.m., with weigh-in at 4 p.m. Classes are 5,500 pounds (two-wheel drive small block), 6,200 pounds (four-by-four altered stock), 6,500 (four-wheel drive street stock), 8,000 pounds (power puff), 8,000 pounds (street diesel, 2.6 turbo) and 8,000 pounds (hot diesel, 2.8 turbo).

Payout for all classes except powder puff and hot diesel is $110 to the winner, $70 for second place and $20 for third place, based on the number of trucks. The other payouts are $60/$30/$10 for the powder puff class and $180/$80/$40 for the hot diesel class. Contestants may use a maximum hitch height of 26 inches and the hook fee is $20. The drivers' meeting will take precedence over written rules.
