Delta woman dies in crash near Swanton

SWANTON -- A Fulton County woman died Monday afternoon following a crash that occurred in Swan Creek Township, west of the village of Swanton.

The Toledo post of the Ohio Highway Patrol reported that Hope Mattin, 58, Delta, was killed in the crash, which occurred on County Road C, near County Road 4, at 1:43 p.m.

Troopers report that Mattin was standing outside her car which was parked on the side of the roadway when she was struck by a car driven by Alanna Crable, 17, Napoleon.

Crable was eastbound on County Road C, went off the left side of the roadway and struck Mattin, pinning her underneath her vehicle.

Mattin was transported by air ambulance to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, where she was pronounced dead.

Crable and a passenger, Matthew Bogert, refused treatment at the scene.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office and the Swanton Fire Department assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation, but alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor.
