With the regular season coming to a close, all eyes begin to focus on the postseason tournament. Some are looking for redemption and a chance for a fresh start, others are looking to continue their winning ways and make a run for the championship.

Area teams received their tournament marching orders on Sunday with the sectional volleyball draw being held.

The Division II sectional at Liberty Center kicks off with second-seeded Napoleon (12-6) facing Scott (2-12) on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 6:15 p.m. After leading her team to a solid record going into the draw, Napoleon's Heidi Mekus is eager to improve on last year's first-round defeat.

"We have really focused on team success and not individual success this year," commented Mekus. "I have really seen that come out the last couple of weeks. I think going into the tournament, we have a lot more commitment to our team's success.

"I am hoping that we can go into that first game and set a high intensity level of play," added the Napoleon mentor. "It is important that we set the pace early and carry through with it."

No. 1 seeded Eastwood (18-2) earned the bye and will await the winner of the Tuesday, Oct. 20 matchup between Defiance (6-12) and Wauseon (7-11).

Despite a rough regular season, Defiance mentor Brooke Buti is optimistic about the start of the tournament run.

"Last year we had a great group of girls who went into the tournament determined not to lose," she said. "We had a very strong run and we are ready to repeat that. We know that momentum and confidence is going to be key. I have six seniors who were with me last year, so they know how the tournament is going to be. They have done a great job leading the team and keeping the tempo going. They realize that as seniors, this is make it or break it time."

Undefeated Archbold (20-0) looks to continue its winning ways as it faces off against Swanton (3-15) on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 6:15 p.m. at Archbold in the Division III opener.

"We try not to think about the tournament too much," stated Archbold coach Julie Nofziger. "I try and stress to the girls that at the beginning of the tournament, everyone is equal again. Everyone starts off with a fresh record. It is a time to try new things and continue to succeed at what we have done so far."

Archbold is ranked No. 2 in Division III in the latest OHSVCA Poll.

"I expect that the seniors will step up big time," said Nofziger. "We choose captains for the tournament at the end of the regular season, that way everyone has had a taste of leadership. Many of the girls have been in tournaments before, so we should all know what to expect and be able to perform at a competitive level."

No. 2 seeded Delta (18-2) will await the winner of Tuesday's late game between Evergreen (14-3) and Tinora (12-7).

The Van Wert sectional is set to open with a Tuesday, Oct. 20 match between Fairview and Paulding with No. 1 seed Parkway awaiting the winner. Second seed Coldwater will face the winner of Fort Recovery vs. Lima Central Catholic.

Division IV sectionals are set to begin on Tuesday, Oct. 20 when Hicksville takes on North Central while Montpelier hosts Edgerton in the night cap. No. 1 seeded Antwerp (12-6) will await the winner of the first match, with Edon (16-3) facing the winner of game two.

Delphos St. Johns (9-10) faces Lincolnview (3-15) in the sectional opener at Lincolnview with No. 1 seed Delphos Jefferson (17-1) waiting in the wings. Ottoville (10-9) and Wayne Trace (10-10) are set to play after game one, with No. 2 seeded Crestview (13-8) looking to play the winner.

The Miller City sectional kicks off with Miller City facing Holgate, and No. 2 seed Leipsic facing Ayersville. Top-seeded Columbus Grove will play the winner of game one.
