New state record warmouth and pumpkinseed sunfish have been certified by the Outdoor Writers of Ohio (OWO) state record fish committee. An Ohio state record warmouth sunfish, weighing 1.32 pounds was caught by Douglas Koenig of Salem from a Mahoning County farm pound on July 19. Koenig's record warmouth was 103/4 inches long with a girth of 111/4 inches. That catch replaces the previous state record warmouth caught from LaDue Reservoir by William Reed in May 2006, which weighed 1.19 pounds and was 101/2 inches long. Ohio Division of Wildlife (DOW) fisheries biologist Phil Hillman at Wildlife District Three identified Koenig's catch. Another state record also has been certified by the OWO. A new pumpkinseed sunfish weighing 1.10 pounds was caught by Scott Boykin of Uniontown from a farm pond in Portage County. Boykin's record catch was 101/2 inches long and was caught using waxworms for bait on June 12. Boykin's record replaces the previous state record pumpkinseed caught in 2001 by Terry Rush while ice fishing that weighed 3/4 of a pound and was 91/2 inches long. DOW fisheries biologist Matt Wolfe at Wildlife District Three identified Boykin's catch. Ohio state record fish are certified by the OWO state record fish committee. Assisting in the process are fisheries biologists who work for the DOW.
