NEY — A Defiance County man died Thursday in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 127 in Defiance County’s Washington Township.
Philip Wagner, 38, Sherwood, was pronounced dead at the scene by county Coroner Dr. Paul Brose, according to troopers from the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Troopers said a Chevrolet Corvette driven by Wagner was southbound at 9:50 p.m. on U.S. 127, south of Ney-Williams Center Road, when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment and tree and overturned.
Troopers report that Wagner was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation by the patrol.
Assisting at the scene were the Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, Sherwood Police Department, Ney Fire Department, Sherwood Fire Department and ProMedica air ambulance.
Damage to the vehicle was heavy.
