BUCYRUS -- Abe Days will be celebrated this year in Bucyrus on Aug. 6-8. Sponsored by the Bucyrus Tourism & Visitors' Bureau, Abe Days is meant to commemorate the 200th birthday of Abe Lincoln and celebrate life along the Historic Lincoln Highway.
This family event will be held at the Crawford County Fairgrounds with camping and RV spots available for renting and plenty of entertainment and competitions for all.
There will be displays and demonstrations from local artisans, crafters, Lincoln Highway and Abe Lincoln memorabilia collectors. In conjunction with Abe Days, the Lincoln Highway buy-way yard sale will be going.
Public admission is $1 per person and some events have an additional participation fee.
On top of the entertainment docket is the Battle of the Garage Bands Across the Lincoln Highway, set for Aug. 6 from 5:30-10:30 p.m. in the grandstands. The event is planned especially for high school teens, 13-18 years of age.
A performance from local folk group, Bell Acoustic, will kick off the Aug. 7 events at 4:30 p.m. in the park. There will be an Abe's Ice cream social throughout the evening and people can get their portraits done in "Abe" style by local sketch artists. From 6-8 p.m., Bucyrus' contemporary folk group, the Lesser Known Poets, will take the stage to entertain the audience with special guest Sean Beal of the local group, Big Back 40.
The height of Abe Days will be on Aug. 8 at the fairgrounds. Hats Off to Abe 200th birthday celebration being held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Kicking off the day's festivities is the Lincoln Highway High School Marching Band Festival. Area marching bands are invited to come out and give a pre-football preview of their talent between 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
