EVANSPORT -- The Evansport Terquasquicentennial Committee is searching for a rhyme for "terquasquicentennial" or a catch phrase that sums up Evansport's rich heritage.

At its July meeting, the committee, which is planning a number of events in 2010 to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Evansport's founding, decided to ask the public for help in creating an anniversary tagline that will be used on commemorative items and provide a theme for the community's important milestone next year.

"The committee felt this was a fun way to begin engaging current and former area residents in Evansport's 175th anniversary celebration," said committee member Kevin Maynard. "Participants are encouraged to submit as many ideas as they like."

Past themes have included "Ghost Town Alive in '85" during Evansport's 1985 sesquicentennial celebration and "Still Alive in '95" for the community's 160th anniversary.

Suggestions may be submitted, along with name and contact information, at the Evansport post office; by mail to the Evansport Terquasquicentennial Committee, PO Box 19044, Evansport 43519; or via e-mail at info@strykerahc.org. The deadline for entries is Aug. 5.

An Evansport 175th anniversary page has been created on the Stryker Area Heritage Council's website, www.strykerhistory.org. The page contains terquasquicentennial committee meeting agendas and minutes, a printable copy of a new brochure on Evansport's history, media releases and photos. Additional items will be posted in the future.

The committee's next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Tiffin Township Fire Station on Main Street. Anyone with an interest in the Evansport area and its heritage is encouraged to participate.

Additional information is available by contacting Maynard at 419-373-0310 or via e-mail at info@strykerahc.org, and also by checking the SAHC website.
