Defiance Rotary Club donated more than $42,000 to groups

The Defiance Rotary Club has donated more than $42,000 to Defiance organizations and projects.

The donations were announced at Rotary's annual contribution meeting held Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Rotary president Jerry Overmier thanked the club for its work during the year, noting that the Corvette raffle had again been a success in helping the club raise the money.

For many years the club has supported the community through its fund-raising projects and charitable contributions.

"We are glad to recognize the many contributions and services of these agencies through these monetary gifts," said Overmier, "and are glad to support their many worthwhile projects."

Organizations each receiving Rotary contributions of $3,000 or more during the year included DASH, Defiance College, Defiance city food pantries and the Defiance County furniture bank.

Organizations receiving contributions of $2,000 or more included Defiance Catholic School technology for classrooms fund, Imagination Library, DASH and the Rotary International Foundation.

Organizations receiving contributions of $1,000 from Rotary included Black Swamp Area Council of Boy Scouts, Defiance City Schools Foundation, Defiance County Humane Society, Defiance High School Challenge Day, downtown Defiance decorating committee, Defiance High School sports facilities project, Defiance Downtown Development and Visitors Bureau, Rotary Mesa medical equipment, Northeastern Local Schools athletic facilities capital fund and Northwest State Community College.

Organizations receiving contributions of less than $1,000 included Big Brothers Big Sisters, city of Defiance Historians, Defiance Baseball Association, Defiance Catholic School, Defiance Eagles 372, Defiance High School choral music program, Defiance Youth Football, Junior Achievement, Northeastern Little League, Northwest Ohio Junior Golf Association, Rotary International Rose Bowl float committee, Shots for Tots and the Volunteer Connection of Northwest Ohio.
