WAUSEON -- The threshers are coming to town.

The 64th annual National Threshers Association reunion opens Thursday and continues through Sunday at the Fulton County Fairgrounds near here.

The reunion will include threshing machines, antique steam and gas engines, tractor games, flea markets, demonstrations and more.

"It's amazing to experience what our ancestors went through -- the smoke, soot and hard labor -- to fully appreciate today's modern conveniences," said David Schramm, association president. "But we like to have a little fun, too."

This year's reunion will feature Russell steam engines and tractors as well as John Deere tractors and equipment.

The reunion will open each day at 10 a.m., except on Sunday when it will open at 8:30 a.m.

Events begin Thursday with opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. The day includes a mini-equipment parade at 3 p.m. and the annual meeting of the threshers association at 8 p.m.

A variety of activities for all ages are planned throughout the reunion.

Friday features a tug of war at 1:30 p.m. and plowing at 2 p.m.

A variety of entertainment gets underway with an equipment parade at 4 p.m. and country music at 5:30 p.m. A fiddler's contest is set for 7:30 p.m. in the sale/show arena.

After dark, events continue with a lantern walk of the gas engines and a spark show in the infield.

For those who would like to see more tractors, a tractor parade through Wauseon begins at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.

Back at the fairgrounds, a kiddie tractor pull is slated for 1 p.m. with children pulling mini weight sleds on their tractors. Trophies and ribbons will be awarded by weight category.

Also planned are a tug of war at 1:30 p.m. and plowing at 2 p.m. Another equipment parade will begin at 4 p.m., followed by bluegrass music at 5:30 p.m. The John F. Limmer award for the best restored engine will be presented at 4 p.m.

After dark, another lantern walk and sparks show in the infield will be held.

On Sunday, after the 8:30 a.m. church service, registration will begin at 10:15 a.m. for the antique tractor pull that starts at 12 p.m.

In addition to the scheduled events, a flea market, wheat cutting, plowing and shocking demonstrations will be featured.
