By TIM McDONOUGH WAUSEON -- For the past five years, Oakshade Raceway near Wauseon has been honoring former Defiance business owner and long-time dirt track racing aficionado Raymond "Butch" Wildermuth, who passed away at the age of 42 in 2005. On Saturday night at the dirt race track near Wauseon, The Butch Wildermuth Memorial event will be held to once again honor the memory of Wildermuth who was a driver, sponsor and car owner at Oakshade during his adult life, as well as the owner/operator of Quality Cars in Defiance. "We've been holding this event every year since he passed away in the spring of 2005," stated Chrissy Henricks of Oakshade Raceway. "Butch promoted Oakshade, he sponsored races, he sponsored cars, he drove here and he did anything he could to help the drivers here. He just really loved dirt racing and he really loved this place. "After he passed away, we wanted to do something in honor of Butch and his family," continued Henricks, whose grandmother Donna Green owns the track and whose parents Terry and Pam Henricks run Oakshade. "He was just a fundamental part of our race track. It was a very easy decision to name an event in his honor." Wildermuth's love of dirt track racing rubbed off on his family, with his youngest son Joel Wildermuth a regular on the racing scene at Oakshade before recently leaving for the Marines. The winner of the American Late Model Series race on Saturday night will get a payout of $2,000 to win, with other racing on tap at Oakshade featuring Sportmans, Bombers and Hornets. Tickets for the Butch Wildermuth Memorial event are $12 for adults (ages 12 and up), $5 for kids ages 6 to 11 and kids under 5 are free.
