HICKSVILLE -- Hicksville's seventh annual community garage sales to benefit Relay for Life will be held Friday and Saturday, June 12-13, throughout town and the surrounding area.

Local resident Mary Wann will chair the event, which involves scores of local and area residents holding two-day garage sales to benefit the American Cancer Society fund-raiser.

Sale hours both days will be 9 a.m.-6 p.m. unless otherwise noted (out-of-town participants can set their own sale times).

Participants pay a $7 fee that covers publicity costs and provides them with packets for designated homes.

"The packets include fliers, balloons, a permit and a sign declaring 'participant,' " she said.

"I'm still getting (entries) left and right," said Wann, who added she has no idea how many participants are involved as yet. "Last year, we had 46."

Monday is the deadline for participants to list their garage sales. Those interested may contact Wann at 419-542-7237 or 419-487-0155.

Wann will distribute fliers listing the names of participating residents and organizations as well as a map of the town showing where each sale is located.

The evening before the sales open, Wann will distribute the fliers to Hicksville Shell, High Street Grill and the Marathon station, all on High Street.
