By LISA NICELY No insurance? No problem. The 10th annual health fair will be held at Paulding County Hospital from 7:30-11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13. The fair, which takes place during John Paulding Days, has helped thousands throughout the years. "It just grows and grows," Brenda Wieland, director of occupational health, guest relations and public relations for Paulding County Hospital, said of the fair. "Especially with the economy the way it is and people not having insurance, I have a feeling this will be more popular than it has been in the past. This is just a great deal." More than 600 people took part in the fair last year. "The big draw is the blood profile we do," said Wieland. "We offer a huge array of different testing. We do a comprehensive blood panel including glucose, liver testing, kidney testing and more. That's a big, popular test for $30. That is a huge savings." The blood tests normally would cost approximately $400. Individuals can also get blood tests to check their thyroid or prostate for $20. A hemoglobin (diabetes) blood check is available for $10. Individuals need to fast 12-14 hours prior to having blood drawn. Wieland said there will be more people drawing blood this year to make the process go faster. While individuals do not have to pre-register for the blood test, it is preferred. Pre-registration forms are available from the hospital and associated physicians as well as online at www.pauldingcountyhospital.com. After having blood drawn, those who wish to end their fasting can head to the hospital's cafeteria or take part in free screenings that will also be offered. "We have a Relay for Life fund-raiser breakfast in our cafeteria for a $3 donation," said Wieland. "That's great for the fasting people." Individuals can also take part in other screenings available at the fair, such as a free bone density scan and derma scans, which check skin for sun damage. "It's not a cancer check, just a check for sun damage," Wieland stressed. "If it's (sun damage) extensive they recommend you see a dermatologist." Other tests available are ankle and foot screenings, hearing checks and posture checks. "We have a lot of various doctors that are here talking about different things as well," Wieland said. "The only screenings you pay for is the blood work and that is at a minimal cost." Additionally, free chair massages will be available, and information booths will be set up by various service agencies in the county. Comments
