HAVILAND -- A young Paulding man died Monday morning in a motorcycle crash near here -- less than 20 hours after graduating from high school. According to the Van Wert post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, Nathan Plummer, 18, who graduated Sunday from Wayne Trace High School, was pronounced dead at Paulding County Hospital following the crash, which occurred at 9:45 a.m. on Paulding County Road 107 (MacDonald Pike), south of Blue Creek Township Road 72. Plummer was southbound on Road 107 when he lost control of his motorcycle, went off the west side of the road and struck a ditch, mailbox and telephone junction box. The accident remains under investigation, and troopers reported that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Assisting at the scene were the Paulding County Sheriff's Office and Scott EMS. "Nathan was very well liked," Wayne Trace High School principal Kevin Wilson said this morning. "Whenever I saw him walking down the hall, he always had a smile on his face." Wilson said several clergy members are available at school today to counsel students "who would just like to talk." "Nathan was involved in FFA all four years of high school. He was an FFA officer and a member of the soil judging team," said Wilson. "He was a good kid to be around." Comments
