Schools impacted by OHSAA reassignment

A pair of six-county schools along with three from the Western Buckeye League will be changing divisions in football this fall following Thursday's reassignment of schools by the OHSAA.

Wayne Trace is moving up from Division VI to V while Delta is dropping from D-IV to D-V following the changes made by the OHSAA, which reassigns schools every other year.

In all, 117 schools will be making division changes including Van Wert, Kenton and Celina of the WBL. VW and Kenton are going from Division III to IV while Celina falls from D-II to D-III.

A pair of defending state champions will also be moving with Sylvania Southview jumping to D-I and Aurora going up to D-II. Steubenville, the 2008 Division IV state runner-up, and Cincinnati Anderson, the '08 D-II state runner-up, each move up a division.

Sunbury Big Wanlut, the 2007 D-III state champion, will now be in D-II while a trio of powers, Columbus Brookhaven, Columbus DeSales and Coldwater, are dropping to D-II, D-III and D-V, respectively.

Others of interest moving include Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary (IV to III), Youngstown Cardinal Mooney (IV to III), Rossford (III to IV), Allen East (VI to V), Marion Local (V to VI), Ottawa Hills (V to VI) and Bucyrus Wynford (V to VI).

Three new playing schools (Hilliard Bradley, Lewis Center Olentangy Orange and Manchester) make the total of in the state at 718.

The largest schools in Ohio are Fairfield (1,227) and Cincinnati St. Xavier (1,171) while the smallest are St. John & Paul (20) and Marion Catholic (35).

The division breakdowns are as follows: Division I (518 or more); Division II (348-517); Division III (252-347); Division IV (177-251); Division V (125-176); and Division VI (124 or fewer).
