Voters in only 11 Defiance County precincts will have tax issues to decide in Tuesday's election, and some will have to take note of polling changes.

Ayersville Local School District voters will be asked to renew a 2-mill, five-year levy for permanent improvements while those in the Hicksville Exempted Village School District will decide a .75 percent, five-year income tax renewal for operating expenses.

Many voters in these districts will see changes in their polling stations.

In the Ayersville district, voters in Highland Township's three precincts (A, B and C) will cast ballots at Ayersville United Methodist Church, 27728 Ayersville Road. Previously, they voted at Ayersville school.

South Richland voters, along with those in Defiance Ward 4-C and Ward 4-D, will make their choices at the Family Christian Center, 1832 E. Second St. South Richland's two precincts have been consolidated into one and have moved their polling stations from Zion Lutheran Church as has Ward 4-D.

"We appreciate all the years Zion has been used," said Defiance County Board of Elections deputy director Pam Schroeder.

According to the board of elections, voters in precinct Ward 4-C will use Family Christian Center only for this election. Otherwise, they will vote at Trinity United Methodist Church, which they've used for years.

In the Hicksville district, the village's four precincts have been reduced to three (A, B and C). Precinct D was merged into precinct B, and part of B was moved into precinct A.

Voters in precincts B and C will cast their ballots at First Presbyterian Church, 232 W. Arthur St., while those in precinct A will do the same at the county fairgrounds' multi-purpose building.

Milford Township voters, who previously cast ballots at the township building, will also have new polling stations at the fairgrounds' multi-purpose building. Hicksville Township electors will vote there as well.

Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The changes are part of a countywide consolidation and reconfiguration of many polling stations by the county's board of elections. These will reduce the number of county precincts from 42 to 39.

Schroeder said the main reasons for the changes are handicapped accessibility, poll worker security and cost.

"By eliminating three precincts we saved a minimum of $1,500 in each election," Schroeder noted.

She said other election boards around Ohio are making similar changes.
