Slocum school demolition 1

The demolition of the former Slocum Elementary School is underway this week. Here, a crew from L.J. Irving tears down the gymnasium on a rainy Monday afternoon. The project is expected to take three weeks, with crews then starting on the former Brickell Elementary School. Slocum, along with Spencer and Brickell elementary schools opened in 1941 and were built following the passage of a $246,500 bond issue approved by Defiance voters in July of 1940.

So many GREAT MEMORIES are going down this week. So many friendships over the years were right here at SLOCUM. May we all cherish those memories and friendships forever in our hearts.

This is a SAD sight in the history of the Defiance City School system.
