Significant precinct voting and polling changes were discussed by Defiance County commissioners during their Monday meeting.
According to Wayne Olsson and Pam Schroeder of the Defiance County Board of Elections, the following precinct changes were recently approved by the elections board:
-- Delaware Township precincts A and B have been consolidated.
-- South Richland precincts A and B have been consolidated.
-- Hicksville village precinct D has been eliminated by combining it with precinct B. Part of precinct B has also been moved into precinct A.
-- reallocating roads in Tiffin Township to redistribute population more evenly.
The board of elections also made the following changes to polling stations:
-- Defiance Ward 2-A and Defiance Ward 2-C will be moved from the former Slocum Elementary School on Thurston Street to the Defiance Eagles on West Second Street.
-- Adams Township and North Richland will be moved to Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren on Domersville Road. This eliminates the Jewell fire hall and St. Michael's Catholic Church basement as polling stations.
-- South Richland and Defiance Ward 4-A will be moved to Family Christian Center. Previously, those precincts were at Zion's Lutheran Church.
-- Mark Township will be moved to Sherwood United Methodist Church. Previously, this precinct was located at Mark United Methodist Church.
-- Farmer Township, Washington Township and Ney Village will be moved to Sonrise Community Church at U.S. 127 and Ohio 249.
-- Milford Township will be moved to the Defiance County Fairgrounds in Hicksville.
Commissioners also discussed inter-agency relationships with Jack Graf and Larry Husted of Defiance County Job and Family Services as well as representatives of Defiance County United Way, RAVENS, Defiance College, Hicksville Community Service Center and Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission.
State and federal regulations require many verifications from applicants for public benefits.
Original copies proving such things as age, citizenship or alien status, disability, Social Security number, employment termination, residency, utilities, property taxes, home insurance, rent/mortgage and income are necessary.
To apply for public assistance, residents should go to Defiance County Job and Family Services from 8:30-11 a.m. Monday through Friday.
No appointments are taken as this is a first-come, first-serve basis.
In other business, commissioners:
-- held the first quarter investment advisory committee meeting with Treasurer Karen Tubbs and Clerk of Courts Amy Galbraith.
-- discussed the Auglaize sewer project with Paulding County commissioners as well as engineers and other officials.
-- met with Engineer Warren Schlatter for his update. He reported that there are no current road closures while the highway department is working on tree removal in rights-of-way, putting up a salt bunker at the highway garage and starting cleanup work and seeding on the Hicksville-Spencerville Road project.
