From staff reports Monday morning was deadly on area highways with three persons, including a 5-year-old, killed in traffic accidents. A crash on U.S. 24 claimed the life of a Liberty Center man when the vehicle he was driving struck a tree. A Paulding woman was killed after her car rolled over in Paulding County's Crane Township, and a 5-year-old Leipsic boy died when a pickup truck collided with a commercial truck in Hancock County. The crash on U.S. 24 claimed the life of Aaron Ripke, 18, 06818 U.S. 24, Liberty Center. According to troopers at the Bowling Green post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, at 7:43 a.m. Ripke's westbound vehicle went off the side of U.S. 24, west of Henry County Road 4-A, and hit a tree. Ripke was pronounced dead at the scene by the Henry County coroner's office. While the crash remains under investigation, the patrol indicated Ripke was wearing a safety belt. The Paulding County Sheriff's Office handled the county's fourth fatal of 2008 Monday morning when C. Gabriele Villalobos, 24, Paulding, died in a one-vehicle crash. According to sheriff's deputies, at 7:34 a.m. the Villalobos sports utility vehicle went off the roadway on Crane Township Road 162, west of Township Road 83, and rolled over. Deputies are still investigating the crash and have not verified if the SUV slid off the road due to icy conditions. Assisting at the Paulding County scene were the Antwerp EMS, Antwerp Fire Department and Cecil Fire Department. Deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff's Office received a call of a crash at 7:21 a.m. Alexander Garlock, 5, Leipsic, died from injuries sustained in that collision. According to deputies, a vehicle driven by Kristen Nowak, 25, Leipsic, was eastbound on U.S. 224, east of County Road 116, when her pickup truck slid on the icy roadway, traveled left of center and was struck by a commercial truck driven by Dale Bedford, age unavailable, of Ontario, Canada. Garlock and Nowak were taken by Hanco Ambulance to Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay, where Garlock was pronounced dead. A condition update for Nowak was unavailable. Deputies report Nowak was wearing a safety belt and Garlock was strapped in a child safety seat. Bedford was not injured. Assisting at the scene were the Blanchard Township Fire Department, Putnam County EMS, McComb EMS, the Emergency Management Agency and the Ohio Department of Transportation. Comments
