By DARLENE PRINCE Dick Cline, a marvelous gardener and groundskeeper, who spent many years at The Crescent-News making the landscaping a treat to see, has retired. Cline, of Defiance, is shown in the above picture with the beautiful display of geraniums and marigolds he created on the newspaper grounds. In his job over the years, he always had a smile and a pleasant comment for C-N employees as we came and went to and from the newspaper. Cline started working at the newspaper in 1991. Describing how he came to work at the C-N, Cline said he had to spend most of his time in the office at his job as general manager at the Defiance Landmark. When he retired from that position, he decided that he wanted to spend time outside. "Steve (VanDemark) was good enough to hire me as a groundskeeper and I enjoyed working with the flowers and plants," he said. VanDemark noted, "The results of Dick's efforts to plant and maintain our flowers were enjoyed by not only our employees but everyone that passed by our grounds. He will be missed." Comments
