MONTPELIER -- Montpelier will once again be hosting a family event with fun for all ages, featuring a lighted carriage and antique tractor parade. On Saturday, Nov. 29, the community will host its second annual Olde Tyme Holiday Gathering, starting with a pancake and sausage breakfast at the Thaman Building at the Williams County Fairgrounds from 7-10:30 a.m. Crafters will then be on hand from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Gillette Building. Shoppers will be able to browse downtown stores when they open at 9 a.m., and the Montpelier Vintage Homes Association will have a few locations open and decorated with Christmas trappings. Horse and tractor drawn vehicles will be available for free rides from the fairgrounds to the downtown area. Starting a little earlier than last year, Santa will lead the lighted carriages and tractors from the fairgrounds to the downtown area at 5:30 p.m. The parade will also include some vehicles featuring performances by Locomotion, the Border Boyz and the St. Paul's Methodist chancel choir. Immediately following the parade will be a new feature: the Empire Street outdoor mini mall will open right downtown so kids can meet with Santa and visit a live nativity. Hot soup, sandwiches, popcorn, cocoa and baked goods will be available for purchase. Local talent including MAVUS, a brass ensemble led by Montpelier High School band director Rose Weger, and other groups will perform Christmas favorites. Added to the fun this year, the chamber will hold a Christmas wreath auction and an open house has been set at Stage Wright in the mall area. Anyone interested in entering a team or tractor in the parade, or who would like to be part of the Empire Street mini mall or have a craft booth (homemade items only), or for more information on the event, can contact the Montpelier Chamber of Commerce at 419-485-4416.
