Apache Wonderly sets state mark

SHERWOOD -- Fairview receiver Ben Wonderly hauled in 15 passes to push his career total to 309 and with them set a new state record for career receptions as the Apaches handed visiting Edgerton a 41-26 loss.

With his 15 catches, Wonderly amassed 221 yards and one touchdown for the Apaches, who push their overall record to 6-1 while staying undefeated in GMC play at 4-0.

Fairview quarterback James Elchinger threw for 394 yards and five touchdowns, two to his brother John Elchinger.

Jeff Crowe, Chuck Lotz and Michael Sebastian each ran for a touchdown for Edgerton (4-3, 1-3).

HICKSVILLE -- The Hicksville Aces upped their record to a perfect 7-0 and 4-0 in the GMC with a 48-6 victory over visiting Holgate.

Logan Battershell led the rushing attack for Hicksville by accumulating 184 yards and two touchdowns, while fullback Adam Battershell added 69 yards on the ground with two more rushing scores.

Holgate's Josiah Buttermore rushed for 106 yards for Tigers (0-7, 0-4 GMC), while Ross Clady tacked on 60 rushing yards and the Tigers' sole touchdown.

HAVILAND -- Antwerp had for 443 yards of total offense en route to a 35-21 victory over Wayne Trace.

Josh Smith led the Archers (3-4, 1-3, GMC) with three touchdown runs and ended the night with 208 yards of rushing.

Raider Tevin Hale found paydirt twice and had 98 yards rushing to lead the Raiders, who fall to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

ARCHBOLD -- After outscoring league rival Delta 21-7 in the first quarter, Archbold went on to capture a 53-7 victory to remain undefeated.

The victory improves the Blue Streaks' overall record to 7-0 and 5-0 in league play and sets up a matchup Friday with fellow league unbeaten Patrick Henry (7-0, 6-0).

Quarterback David Rupp led the Streaks offense with 175 yards rushing and four scores while running back Jacob Fidler ran for 136 yards and a touchdown.

Korbin Smith had a 44-yard touchdown reception for the Panthers (1-6, 0-5).

Colin Hughes found paydirt four times to lead the Indians (4-3, 4-1 NWOAL), while Jeff Jasso added two scoring runs.

The Locomotives fall to 0-7 on the year and 0-6 in the league.

BRYAN -- The Patriots of Patrick Henry set up a Friday showdown with fellow unbeated Archbold with a 50-6 victory over Bryan.

The victory moves PH to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in NWOAL contest while Bryan falls to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in league play.

Justin Buenger led the Patriots' ground pounding with 88 yards rushing and two TDs while Josh Almanza, Luke George, Bill Miller, and Nick Powers each added a touchdown run of their own.

George also went 8-of-9 passing for 121 yards and one touchdown throw.

METAMORA -- Jordan McCready of Evergreen ran for three touchdowns and threw for another as Evergreen (3-4, 2-3) defeated Swanton, 39-20.

McCready led the team with 29 rushes for 199 yards while hitting six of his nine pass attempts for 89 yards through the air.

Lucas Pennington had three catches for 48 yards for the Vikings and also had a touchdown while teammate Chad Monohagn added an 80-yard kickoff return the Vikes.

Tim VanNewhouse led the Swanton (1-6, 1-5) attack with 12 rushes for 110 yards and a touchdown.

LIBERTY CENTER -- The Tigers of Liberty Center jumped out to an early lead and went on to defeat Cardinal Stritch, 59-7.

Jake Elling led the LC ground attack with 73 total yards and two touchdown carries. Tigers Sean Sexton, Damian Maes, Andy Spiess, Logan Burdue and Patrick Brown also pounded out a touchdown carry each for Liberty (6-1).

A. Manders scored a touchdown for Cardinal Stritch (1-6) on a 34 yard interception return in the first.

PAULDING -- Haden Sholl threw four touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Panthers to 400 yards of total offense and a 41-14 victory over Allen East.

Andrew Mott caught two of Sholl's touchdowns while Corbin Rhonehouse scored on a three-yard run.

Levi Hoy threw two touchdown passes to E.J. Lang of 55, and 42-yards for the only points for the Mustangs.

Paulding improves to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the NWC while Allen East Falls to 2-5 and 2-4 in the NWC.

WEST UNITY -- Hilltop's Josh Beals hauled in a pair of first-half touchdown receptions and scored a third touchdown on the ground in the first half to help the Cadets (5-2, 3-1) to a convincing 54-25 victory over TAAC foe Ottawa Hills.

Beals ended the night with 146 rushing yards and two touchdowns with two TD receptions.

Kenne Green and J.J. Buckey each took a pass into the end zone for Ottawa Hills (1-6, 1-3) while Nasri Hajjar pounded out a touchdown on the ground.

Edon's Christian Sidle had a 4-yard run for a score while Bombers' quarterback Alex Sonneberger added a 12-yard scoring run.

Taylor Kuhlman led the Titans (4-3, 3-2 WBL) with 60 yards rushing and two scores while Jacob Lugo added 183 yards on the ground.

Scott Goedde paced the Wildcats (2-5, 1-5) with 31 yards receiving.

Wapakoneta 17, Shawnee 16

WAPAKONETA -- The Redskins of Wapak pulled out a 17-16 win over WBL rival Shawnee.

Jake Lambert led the Wapakoneta attack with 81 yards rushing and a touchdown, followed by Jason Bartlett's 95 yard kickoff return. Dan Dripps put a 36 yard field goal attempt straight down the heart with two minutes left in the game to take the lead and the victory.

Isaiah Irons kicked off the Shawnee drive with a 60 yard end zone reception from Josh Miller. Brandon Stephenson added a touchdown run. Cody Kopilchack tacked on a 25 yard field goal.

St. Marys 34, Van Wert 6

VAN WERT -- State-ranked St. Marys outscored Van Wert 21-0 in the first half and went on to hand the Cougars a 34-6 defeat.

Jeremy Frey hit paydirt twice to lead the Roughriders' (7-0, 6-0 WBL) offense while Aaron Homan, Cody Martin and Dan Roberts added a touchdown each.

Donny Sites scored on a 17-yard pass from Austin Fleming for the Cougars' (3-4, 3-3) lone score.

Celina 34, Elida 13

ELIDA -- Blake Moran scored on receptions of 15 and 61 yards for Celina to lead the Mercer County Bulldogs to a 34-13 victory over rival Elida.

The victory is the first of the year for Celina (1-6, 1-5) while Elida remains winless (0-7, 0-6).

Derek Gagle threw for two touchdowns and Alex Dues ran for two more as Celina pounded out 334 yards of total offense.

Desmond Ragin of Elida scored on a 3-yard run and Michael Knotts caught an 11-yard TD pass from Alex McAdams.
