A Defiance County teen-ager was seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident in Highland Township late Tuesday evening.

Ashley Nagel, 17, 25786 Bowman Road, Defiance, a junior at Ayersville High School, was listed in "critical" condition at Toledo Hospital, Toledo, this morning.

According to the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, at approximately 10:50 p.m. Nagel was westbound on Bowman Road when her vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a ditch west of Highland Center Road.

Troopers reported that fire personnel utilized cutting equipment to free Nagel from the vehicle.

She was then taken by air ambulance to the Toledo Hospital.

She was not wearing a safety belt, according to troopers.

Assisting at the scene were the Defiance County Sheriff's Office, Highland Township Fire Department and the South Richland Fire Department.

The crash remains under investigation.
